Client: NAVANTIA
Location: Astilleros de San Fernando. Cádiz.
Navantia is a Spanish public company, with several facilities in the country, which focuses on the naval sector.
Navantia’s facilities in the Bay of Cadiz are the largest enterprise-wide surface. It is in this area that has one of the biggest dams in the world and the two largest port cranes in Spain.
The shipyard specializes in the construction of large dimensionated ships, large military vessels, fast patrol boats and special ships.
BACKGROUND
The client needs to get a handle on steel sheets up to 15 T for shipbuilding in San Fernando Shipyard.
THE PROYECT
Design a system capable of handling, safely and reliably, huge steel plates which works on a daily basis at the shipyard.
THE SOLUTION
For this, it was designed, built and installed a Drott (straddle) equipped with permanent magnets able to manipulate steel plates in two perpendicular directions, according to customer specifications.
